A font just begging to be animated, F37 Makadam perfectly encapsulates the style and output of type and motion designer, Mario De Meyer.
F37 Makadam is a caps only inline typeface designed to be loud and vibrant in all of its three styles. Deflated shows off its beautiful underlying structure, useful for casual and graphic headlines. Inflated is where the fun begins, with a complex and striking inline, the letter forms swell as if they were about to burst. Straight is the bold big brother of Deflated, making a strong impact where ever it is used. In the variable format, the fourth style called Punctured is the same as Deflated. This makes looping animations much smoother and more accessible.

Inspiration
Interview
Tell us about the inspiration behind your collaboration with F37®×. If it was an unused concept, what was the potential use case for it.
My inspiration comes from Ink Traps that are used in newsprint, they are usually used for small types. I wanted to explore these by exaggerating them and see how far I can push these.
When starting the process of creating your font, what typographic conventions did you look to break or experiment with? Or were there conventions of functionality you championed?
I wanted to break with the standard conventions but keep their original idea and present them in a fluid dynamic way. There is a 'light' and 'bold' version, but also an inflated version and anything in between.
Now that your typeface has launched, what would be your dream project to use your F37® typeface on?
This font works great for large sizes, so I'm thinking billboards and stuff even bigger than that.
What have you learnt through developing and creating your own typeface(s) with our F37® type designers?
You need to have a solid underlying building system for a cohesive end result.
How would you describe your typeface in three words?
Sharp. Inflated. Contrast.
