In Memoriam is a modern take on the Blackletter style of typography.
Born in Yorkshire it is a beautifully crafted sharp font with contrasting line weights and a lot of character. It contains three stylistic sets, alts, swashes and ornaments. In the tradition of Blackletter it is calligraphic in construction, but not slavishly traditional.

Interview
Tell us about the inspiration behind your collaboration with F37®×. If it was an unused concept, what was the potential use case for it.
In Memoriam was born from the desire to make a lasting tribute to my family. A constant reminder of the ache in my heart from their passing. A constant reminder of them and the good times we enjoyed together. A reminder of them. I have been a big fan of Blackletter fonts for a long time, and wanted to design my own take on that style. The intended use case is for a series of tattoos of the names of departed family members. In Loving Memory of Dad, Brockmann, Betty, Valerie & Walter.
When starting the process of creating your font, what typographic conventions did you look to break or experiment with? Or were there conventions of functionality you championed?
I'm a big fan of 'things' that don't look quite right. With In Memoriam I started with the letter cap A (original I know) and went from there. I also love contrasts, so I made the contrast between thick and thin really big. For me it adds a lovely delicate but brutal quality to the character of the font. I like people to sometimes have to work a little when looking at design. I like niche things too, Blackletter is very niche, a nice challenge. I love the way the font looks and feels VERY sharp, very precise. But then Rodrigo (my collaborator at F37) and I had some fun with things like the swashes and extra stylistic sets, alts and a lot of extra features.
Now that your typeface has launched, what would be your dream project to use your F37® typeface on?
Tattoo (soon), and my gravestone (hopefully not too soon).
What have you learnt through developing and creating your own typeface(s) with our F37® type designers?
Working with Rodrigo has reinforced my respect for typographers, and by typographers I mean 'proper' typographers. I have admired type design for a very long time, I sort of play at it, but these guys are the real deal. Rodrigo's enthusiasm is a wonderful thing, I love working with people like Rodrigo. It's serious, but fun, and that is very important. I enjoy hearing other people's perspective, and interpretations on our work. Rodrigo added so much to the final font that it feels like a true collaboration, one I'm incredibly proud of. Thank you Rodrigo/F37 for your talent, knowledge and generosity.
How would you describe your typeface in three words?
In Loving Memory.
