We revved up a powerful new typographic system for MotoGP™, with a brand-new hero display font and a complementary text font based on our very own F37 Qbik.
Grand Prix motorcycle racing is the oldest established motorsport world championship, having been around in various guises since the mid-20th century. It rebranded as MotoGP™ in 2002 and hosts races at 19 circuits across the globe, from Austria to Australia, with riders reaching top speeds of up to 220mph.
F37® has done an outstanding job in creating and developing a new custom MotoGP™ typeface, in collaboration with Pentagram, the agency leading our rebranding effort. The new display typeface draws inspiration from elements of the MotoGP™ logo and world, featuring alternate characters that bring a unique edge to our messaging and graphics. The variable typeface brings exceptional flexibility especially as a dynamic brand element that truly reflects the pace and cutting-edge ethos that defines our sport. Additionally, the text typeface prioritizes legibility while also mirroring logo traits. We are thrilled with the results.
Motorsport is an intensely competitive market, and MotoGP™ wanted to evolve its brand to reflect the sheer power, precision, and excitement that define the sport. As the pinnacle of motorcycle racing, it required a visual identity that could further resonate globally while showcasing the speed, agility, and innovation at its core.
We were briefed by legendary design house Pentagram to create a complete new custom display font family based on the logo they’d created for MotoGP™. Along with a modified text font based on F37 Qbik.
A fresh, modern type system was essential to align with the bold, fluid energy of the new logo — one that would enhance the brand across racetrack signage, broadcast graphics, and digital platforms.
We took cues from the new logo’s dynamic curves, mechanical precision, and low-contrast geometric forms to create a custom font family that embodies the essence of MotoGP™. The result is a sleek, versatile typeface with flowing lines and balanced forms that subtly evoke the bends, straights, and momentum of racetracks.
The type family includes 44 weights and variants, offering flexibility across diverse applications. To amplify the sense of speed, we introduced discretionary horizontal ligatures and leaning alternate characters. These features add an extra layer of motion and energy, while an inline version of the primary display font provides additional texture and variety for dramatic headlines.
For the text font, we built on F37 Qbik’s foundation, refining it to ensure legibility in demanding contexts like on-screen graphics and data-heavy environments. The result is a comprehensive typographic system that drives MotoGP™’s brand forward with confidence and style.
