A playful, personality-packed typeface intended to bring the lively energy of toddlers to life.
Grow with Iris is redefining plant-based nutrition for kids, making it easier for families to choose a free-from milk alternative without compromise. But while their mission was bold and forward-thinking, their branding needed the same energy.
Sophie Paynter, co-founder of Grow with Iris, approached us to help bring the brand to life through typography. They needed a playful and energetic font to match their fun and feel-good approach.
We loved partnering with F37® to turn our sketches into a fully functioning, bouncy, toddler-tastic font and logo. We gave the team a technical challenge that they rose to – they created both an outlined and a solid version in pre-filled colours, with variable letterforms too. The outlined headline version mirrors our character illustration style and the solid filled version is used in our logo but also works brilliantly for smaller copy.
Our Iris font helps give Grow with Iris a huge amount of stand out in a category that’s dominated by faceless corporate giants and medicalised solutions. With F37®’s help, we’ve created a brand that’s friendly, fun and welcoming.
Sophie provided vector sketches of her hand-drawn characters, and we meticulously transformed them into a fully functional font. We refined the details and programmed the movement giving a playful bounce to each character as you type. Behind the font is an extensive array of OpenType® code to allow for backtracked contextual alternates and a baseline bounce. This gives each word a uniquely playful appearance.
With eight vibrant variations—Pea, Lilac, Berry, Mint, Coconut, White, Vanilla and Kale—each takes on the colour of it’s namesake, bringing a natural and wholesome feel to every word. The character set even includes some adorable icons, adding an extra touch of fun!
The colour is imbedded within the font files using two Color Font formats. Each style is double-encoded with SVG and CPAL colour values, ensuring maximum compatibility across various environments. By imbedding colours directly into each style, Grow with Iris can maintain strict brand guidelines and prevent rogue hex values from disrupting its identity.
The result? A font that’s as expressive and full of life as the toddlers Grow with Iris was made for!
